Project Overview

This project takes its inspiration from the inimitable style and confidence of Glaswegians, it is bold, mischievous and fun. It will run for 18 months and peak in the two weeks before the Official Games in 2014; taking over the City Centre with on-the-spot games and displays such as Dry Synchronised Swimming, Road Sweeper Races and a Gallus Grand Prix.

The starting point is to ask “Do you have a hidden talent?”  Are you great at skate-boarding? Can you tell the best story? Are you a winner at pitch and toss? We will create games from the public response,  working with schools, businesses, cultural organisations, sports and leisure groups; to identify their skills and set up challenge matches around Scotland with the finals in Glasgow.

We will hold a competition to design our own Medals and compose a Gallus National Anthem.  I want participants to experience the excitement of taking part in a major sporting event, (whether it is the world’s longest leap-frog, luminous hula-hooping or a pakora-making competition) we will not be allowed to use real stadia for security reasons, so we want to build a temporary Eco-stadium from recycled materials on a ‘stalled space’ in Glasgow and hold our Finals in it. The stadium could remain in place for 6 months to be the venue for other events.. a Gallus Edinburgh Festival..?
